Full Description
NC46SE 9 4560 6076.
On a gentle S-facing slope are the remains of a sub-oval, stone-built structure of uncertain period. It measures approximately 11m N-S by 6.5m transversely (the longer axis down the slope) within a collapsed wall overgrown with peat and heather, which is spread to about 2.0m wide and survives to 0.3m high. There are several large stones set on edge defining the inner wall face, and one or two possible outer facing stones are visible; this mode of construction commonly occurs in the walls of hut circles. No entrance can be identified. Stone clearance overlies the N end of the structure, and there are about six other clearance heaps in the immediate area, though they may not be contemporary. The scale and general appearance of the structure suggests that it is almost certainly a dwelling and of some antiquity (see NC46SE 11 for a similar structure).
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 29 April 1980.
