Full Description

GR corrected to above to hut circle marked on 1st ed OS - HAW 5/2004

NC50NE 21 591 050.
('A': NC 5916 0501) Hut Circle (NR).
OS 6"map, Sutherlandshire, 2nd ed., (1908)

('A' and 'B' NC 5914 0503) Hut Circles (NR).
OS 1:10,000 map, (1970)

Two hut circles with associated field clearance.
'A' Previously noted on earlier OS maps, is mutilated, but has apparently had a diameter of 8.5m and now consists of a turf-covered stone bank 0.3m high where best preserved on the NW. Elsewhere the outline is traceable only with difficulty and no entrance is identifiable.
'B' Appears to have been 8m in diameter but the remains are vey slight, consisting at best of a scarp 0.3m high on the SE segment. The entrance, 12m wide has been in the SSE.
Field clearance heaps lie to the east and north and immediately to the west of 'A' is a stony mound some 8m in diameter and 1.5m in maximum height.
Revised at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (R D L) 7 July 1963.

Neither of the features published on OS 1:10,000 map (1970) resemble hut circles. The northernmost (B) is a low natural knoll in which living rock, protruding through the turf and just below the surface, give an erroneous impression of a hut circle shape. 'A' comprises a stony mound, noted in the previous field report, with a crescentic bank on its east arc, the latter supposedly the remains of a hut, but in appearance more like quarrying into the mound, the bank effect being accentuated by run-rigto the north and south. The mound itself is probably clearance associted with the run-rig. There are several smaller clearance heaps in the area, and a probable cairn (see NC50NE 27).
Visited by OS (N K B) 89 August 1976.
