Full Description
Centred on NC 587 009 is a settlement of three oval stone-walled hut circles (A-C) in association with a field system occupying five hectares of a moorland hillside facing NW. The field system comprises an even density of of stone clearance mounds, 20.0m to 30.0m apart and occasional lynchets and banks; no measurable cultivation plots are discernible. The huts, of similar build and peat-covered, are levelled into the slope; entrances are in the SW, on the line of the longer axis, and are of simple form.
'A', the best preserved, is about 10.5m by 9.5m internally; the wall stands to 0.4m maximum height, and is spread to an average width of 2.5m broadening to 3.5m at the entrance.
'B' is about 8.0m by 7.0m internally. Apparently stone clearance to 1.0m high, has been piled against the outside of the S segment. From the S end of a break in the NE arc, a stony bank curves outwards and can be followed up the slope for about 10.0m before fading.
'C' is about 10.5m by 9.0m inside a wall standing to 0.4m in the S but elsewhere much reduced; a spread of 2.0m expands to 3.0m at the entrance. There has been disturbance in the N arc of the hill.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
