Full Description
(NC 577 114) Enclosures (NR) OS 1:10,000 map (1970)
Three enclosures, two of which are contiguous, plus arcs of two other possible enclosures, were discovered during field investigation. Visited by OS (EGC) 24 June 1963
These "enclosures" are a settlement of three closely-grouped hut
circles situated on a slight NE-SW rise. The S hut of contiguous pair is the larger, and measures 12.5m SE-NW x 8.5m within a wall spread to 3m. The simple entrance is in SE. The smaller circle is about 9.5m in diameter within a lower, narrower wall than the larger hut. There is little trace of Esegment. The other hut 50m to NE is about 10.5m SE-NW by 8.5m within a wall spread to 2.5m of which S arc has become obscured. The entrance is in SE. The two fragmentary enclosures noted in previous field report do not resemble the remains of huts; they are more likely stretches of crescentic walling or clearance. A few scattered clearance heaps are to be seen in the area.
Revised at 1:25000, 1:10000 Visited by OS (JB) 13 August 1976
The enclosures previously described as a settlement of 3 hut-circles are probably no more than simple enclosures of agricultural purpose. The enclosing turf-covered banks are probably contemporary.
