Full Description

NC02NW 8 0353 2910.

NC 036 290. Circular cairn 4.0m in diameter, and an enclosure measuring 40m by 8m, filled with boulders and what looks like exposed cists. Information contained in letter from T C Welsh, 4 July 1971.

A probable cemetery of c. 17th c date is indicated, on the E side of a low ridge, by a circular cairn, 4m in diameter and a rectangular enclosure 40m by 8m outlined with large stones and strewn with boulders. T C Welsh 1971.

This alleged enclosure is at NC 0353 2910 at the E base of a low cliff. It is composed of a broad band of loose boulders and stones c. 5.0m wide with the cliff forming the W side. In the debris are two or three small depressions probably where someone has dug for rabbits. This could have been utilised as an enclosure, but it is mainly tumbled stones from the cliff. About 18m to the S is an oval mound of stones 5.0m x 3.5m which is probably a collapsed shieling, and this is probably Welsh's "cairn". Nil antiquities.
Visited by OS (A A) 31 July 1974.

No change to previous field report.
Visited by OS (J B) 28 July 1980.
