Full Description

NC51SW 14 544 148

There are three hut-circles situated in a group of small cairns that extends along a ridge from a small forestry plantation. To the SW the ground has been improved but to the NE there are a series of peat bogs separated by low ridges. The hut-circles are set at intervals along the ridge, the south-easternmost lying some 80m NW of the plantation.
1. NC 5451 1477 This small peat-covered hut-circle is set on the crest of the ridge. It measures about 4.8m in diameter within a low bank about 1.7m in thickness and no more than 0.2m in height. A shallow dip in the crest of the bank on the SE may mark the position of the entrance.
2. NC 5442 1487 This hut-circle is set on the crest of the ridge about 120m NW of 1. It measures about 7m from NW to SE by 5.5m within a bank about 1.7m in thickness by 0.5m in height. The bank appears to have 'club' terminals to either side of the entrance, which is on the SE.
A few stones protrude through the peat around the SW arc.
3. NC 5412 1513 Set at the NW extremity of the group of small cairns at the foot of the ridge and immediately above the improved ground, this hut-circle measures about 9.5m in diameter from NW to SE within a bank up to 1.8m in thickness by up to 0.5m in height on the uphill side. On the downhill side there is little evidence of the course of the bank on the surface of the peat. There is a well-defined entrance on the SW.
The small cairns vary from circular to oval and banana-shaped and some are quite substantial. Amongst them there are traces of a building with a drain round the uphill side and also of a second building almost entirely robbed set on a platform.
Visited by RCAHMS (SH) 17 October 1989.
