Full Description
NC53SW 1 5335 3435.
NC 5335 3435. On the E bank of the Allt Creagan an Diridh is a small cleared area enclosed by a dilapidated earth and stone dyke, and within which are the foundations of nine small shieling bothies varying from 4m by 3m to 8m by 3m. Six of these are situated on a hillcok which has been further (or earlier) enclosed by a turf dyke. No larger houses have been built on this site.
Visited by OS (JLD) 5 May 1961
The shieling footings are as described by the previous field investigator. It would seem as suggested that the site was later enlarged, the footings around the hillock in the N pre-dating the more upstanding remains in the SW. Vague traces of strip cultivation occur around the northern group. The bi-compartmental foundation in the northern group is possibly a kiln, although the kiln area at the N end, 2.8m E-W, is unusually large.
Visited by OS (JB) 27 June 1980
An enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet liii). Nine unroofed shieling-huts within an enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
