Full Description

NC60NE 11 6557 0512.

On a slight knoll high up on NE side of Strath Fleet, is a dun. A steep, rocky slope flanks S side, and position commands a full view across glen. There is no outwork.
The dun, sub-oval on plan, measures 11.5m E-W by 8.5m internally; the entrance position is marked by a depression in SE arc, but no details are discernible. Much of dun wall is reduced to turf-covered rubble. However, intermittent outer facing stones are visible in situ, and in W arc an inner face, up to four courses (1m) high, provides the best preserved section of the dun. The wall varies in thickness from 4.7m in the W to about 3m in N and S, increasing to an estimted 3.5m to 4.0m in the E.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J M) 28 October 1980.

This dun occupies summit of a grass and heather covered knoll 85m above floor of Strathfleet, of which site provides an extensive view. On NE knoll is overlooked by higher ground, from which it is separated by a shallow gully, but on other sides ground falls towards floor of strath, with particularly steep slopes on W and S. The dun measures 10m from WNW to ESE by 8m transversely within a wall up to 4.7m in thickness. The outer face stands 1.2m high on the N but may have been considerably higher as on the W the core reaches 2m above the level of the ground outside; the inner face is best preserved on the W, where it reaches a height of 1m. The entrance is in the ESE side, at the S corner. Around the NW and NE sides of the dun, about 5m in front of the outer wall-face there is an outwork comprising a rough stony bank linking outcropping rocks; this fades out as it turns towards the SE side of the dun, where there is an oval platform immediately below the dun wall, possibly the site of an enclosure.
