Full Description

NC64NE 3 653 469.

Centred on NC 653469 at the east side of a stream is a depopulated settlement bounded by a stony bank. The remains comprise two building footings, unroofed in 1874, 26.0 by 4.0m. and 29.0 by 4.0m, and a smaller building 10.0 by 4.0m, with adjoining enclosures, ruinous field walls and banks, and rig-and-furrow cultivation. Outside the boundary bank in the south is a cluster of three bothy-type footings measuring 5.0 by 3.5m, 5.0 by 3.0m and 3.0 by 3.0m.
A post-clearance sheepfold has been built on the site.
Name Book 1874; visited by OS (J M) 10 July 1978.

Outlying some 200m up the stream is an associated area, bounded by the stream on the east and by a stony bank on the other sides. It is occupied by ruins of a shepherd's house with related outbuildings and walled enclosure; a stalker's hut, partly collapsed, abuts the front of the house. This house still known locally as Staingachoire, (OS 6" map, Sutherlandshire, 1st ed., 1874) was inhabited within living memory, the name probably being transferred when the earlier inhabited area was abandoned at the time of the clearances. On the bank of the stream against a slope, at NC 6522 4739, is a ruinous structure that was probably a corn-drying kiln.
Re-surveyed at 1:10,000.
Name Book 1874; Visited by OS (J M) 10 July 1978.

Two unroofed long buildings and a length of what is probably a head dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xxxv), and may be the site of a township. One unroofed long building of two compartments, four other unroofed buildings, a head-dyke and some field walls are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1992).
