Full Description

GR corrected to location of S hut, N now recorded separately - HAW 3/2004

NC64SE 51 667 428.
At NC 6678 4290 and NC 6678 4288, on SE-facing rising moorland, are two hut circles (A and B respectively) accompanied by a minor field system. Both huts are heather-covered with some stones protruding.
'A' measures 5.5m internal diameter and has an entrance in the SE. The wall is spread to 1.5m. and stands 0.3m. high in the east arc, but elsewhere little above interior level.
'B' measures 8.5 by 7.5m internally and has an entrance in the SSE on the line of the long axis: the wall is spread to 2m and stands on avereage 0.3m high. Occupying the west quadrant of the hut and intruding into the wall are the remains of a later sub-oval structure 4.5 by 4m overall.
The field system is denoted in a dozen or so stone clearance heaps spaced 5 to 15m on the slope down from the huts; measurable plots are not evident.
Surveyed at 1:10 000 Visited by OS (J M) 25 July 1978.
