Full Description

('A': NC 6044 3549 and 'B': NC 604 33549) Hut Circles (NR)
OS 6" map, (1964)

Two hut circles (A and B) are a rectangular setting of four stones were discovered during field investigation.
Visited by OS (W D J) 11 May 1961.

Of the two circular leatures previously described as hut circles, situated on approach to broch causeway (NC63NW 11), 'A' undoubtedly is a hut circle, but 'B' being devoid any clear hut-like remains, is probably a fortuitous arrangement of stones. 'A' is 4.2m in diameter, within a wall, 0.3m high and 1.1m wide, which has been mutilated in SE; elsewhere the inner face is defined by slabs on edge. The entrance is in NW. The rectangular setting lies about 20m SW of 'A'. It measures 2.2m by 1.8m and 0.1m in height. The interior is earth-filled. Its date and purpose remain uncertain. No evidence of contemporary cultivation in area.
Revised at 1/10,000. Visited by OS (J B) 21 March 1977.
