('A': NC 6448 3863 and 'B' : NC 6444 3863) Enclosures (NR)
OS 6"map, (1964)
The remains of two enclosures, discovered during field investigation, on a south-facing slope.
'A' measures 11.1m N-S by 10.5m E-W and consists of a stony bank, now 0.4m high and spread to a width of about 4.5m with an entrance 1.3m wide on the south. On the west side of the entrance, the bank swings outwards to form a horn, protecting the entrance.
'B' is about 12m in diameter and appears to be similar to 'A' but the site is heather-covered and only a vague outline can be seen.
A large, possibly associated paddock, formed by an earth and stone bank, lies some 50m to the south. The interior is disturbed in places but no building foundations were seen.
Visited by OS (W D J) 10 May 1961.
The "enclosures" are hut circles now within a forest having been severely mutilated by ploughing and planting. The "paddock" to the S, covered by grass and bracken in contrast to the heather elsewhere, is later than the huts. It contains bare stone clearance heaps of the kind found in association with depopulated townships.
Revised at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (J B) 21 March 1977.
