Full Description
At NC 6404 0584, built onto a shelf in a S-facing slope, is a homestead, possibly a "key-hole shaped" hut circle. It measures 11.0m by 7.5m internally. The wall, turf and heather-covered, is of rubble with occasional facing stones evident, giving a wall width of 2.0m the facing stones stand on average 0.5m high. The 'clubbed' entrance where the wall width increases quite considerably is in the S. There appears to have been a forecourt outside the entrance now marked by set stones, rubble and a low scarp. A gap of 4.5m in the NE of the structure is a result of stone robbing. There is no trace of contemporary cultivation; the shelf is green and occupied by 19th century strip cultivation when presumably the mutilation of the structure occured.
Surveyed at 1:10,000 Visited by OS (J B) 9 December 1980.
