(NC 4575 4582) Hut Circle (NR)
OS 6"map, (1961)
NC 4583 4573. On level ground on the right bank of the Strathmore River are the slight remains of a homestead comprising a hut circle within an oval enclosure. The enclosure and hut walls survive as stony earthen banks 2.0m wide and 0.3m in average height; the S side of the enlcosure has been completely destroyed. The hut measures 9.0m in internal diameter and has an entrance 1.5m wide on the E.
NC 4575 4582. Another hut circle is situated 110m NW of the homestead. It is very fragmentary, but would appear to have been of similar dimensions to that described above.
Visited by OS (A C) 3 June 1959.
The homestead and hut circle, as described by the previous field investigator, occur on a gentle W-facing slope within the vestiges of a minor field system comprising scattered clearance heaps (including that published on OS 6" 1961 as 'Cairn'). No measurable cultivation plots are discernible.
Visited by OS (N K B) 9 November 1978.
