Full Description
Caiteag: A ruined farmstead comprising a longhouse, standing up to 1.7m high with associated footings and enclosures adjacent. One enclosure is still employed as a stock pen.

Longhouse farm (ND 1312 4886), Caiteag, comprising;
A: Longhouse. Dimensions: 44 x 8m. Rectangular structure divided into four units, overlying the earlier structures (D,E,F & G). NW unit contains a fireplace. Orientation NW-SE.
B: Enclosure. Dimensions: 20 x 14m. Irregular structure with a smaller enclosure attached to the SE corner 6 x 5m, part of the later phase. It lies 2m NW of A.
C: Enclosure. Dimensions: 20 x 14m. Irregular enclosure, joined to A and using part of its long wall. Part of the later phase.
D: Longhouse. Dimensions: 19 x 5m. Tripartite rectangular structure, part of the earlier phase of construction, 4m NE of A. Orientation NW-SE.
E: Longhouse. Dimensions: 15 x 5m. Tripartite rectangular structure, part of the earlier phase, 20m W of A. Orientation NW-SE.
F: Enclosure. Dimensions: 21 x 10m. Rectangular enclosure partly overlain by C.
G: Enclosure.Dimensions: 20 x 7m. Rectangular bipartite enclosure partly overlain by C.

A farmstead comprising four unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, and two enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxii). Six unroofed buildings and three enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
