Full Description

An iron axehead 5 3/4" long with flaring blade 3 7/8" wide found in a stream, near Ledbaig, on the way to Loch Assynt. Presented by the finder J C MacLaren c/o Stevens 15, Marchmont Cresc. Edinburgh to the National Museum in 1945-6.
Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1948.

The axehead is of the type illustrated in London Museum Mediaeval Catalogue (1940) Fig 12.2 and p.59 (Mediaeval woodman's axe type II) The socket is a little longer. Accn. No. MP 632
