Monument record MHG13258 - Doir A' Chata

c. 400m E of the croft of East Durcha and now (April 1986) within an area of afforestation, are the foundations of a long, rectangular structure, probably a house. The walls survive to a height of c. 30cm, and in the absence of any evidence of collapsed stonework except for a slight rise in the wall-height on the E gable they are unlikely ever to have stood much higher. The building was therefore presumably turf-walled. A small rectangular enclosure, open on the S side, stands some 40m to the SE of the house. In a slightly better state of preservation, it comprises three low walls of thin dry-stone slabs, standing to a height of c. 30-40cm with no evidence of having been higher. The function of this, with one completely open side, is unknown, but it seems likely to have been associated with sheep farming.
