Full Description

NC74NW 26 727 489

A township comprising three unroofed buildings and three enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xxxvi). Five unroofed buildings and two unroofed structures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 30 August 1995.

Two small farmsteads situated on a dry knoll overlooking the River Naver to the W, were recorded during a pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology (NMRS MS 899/75, nos.1-2). Although none of these buildings is depicted on the 1st edition of the of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xxxvi), they are probably part of the township lying immediately to the E.
The W group, centred on NC 7235 4882, comprises a rectangular building measuring 10m by 3.5m with an enclosure, measuring 11m by 10m, attached on the SE.
The second group, centred on NC 7245 4883, comprises three sub-rectangular buildings on a N to S orientation which are defined by very low turf and stone banks. They measure 4m by 3.5m, 8.5m by 3.5m and 4.5m by 3m.
A stretch of turf and stone bank (NMRS MS 899/75, no.4), depicted on both the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map and the current edition of the 1:10560 OS map, is also probably associated with the township.
S Carter and M Dalland (Headland Archaeology) 12 March 1998; NMRS MS 899/75, nos.1, 2 and 4
