The location of the industrial remains may lie within the scheduled area of ND16NW0003, the Bishop's Palace.

Paul Humphreys reports that there are traces of ironworking being eroded on the beach below the castle & behind the WW2 tank traps. He says that furnace floor levels & hammer scale are visible being eroded onto the beach. He believes these finds are Norse in date. - HAW 2/2003
