Full Description
BAS Local Plan, Sept. 1997: P35/4.10.2. Footpaths and Walks. Scope exists to promote routes to the riverside, with a viewpoint indicator and interpretation of Muckrach Castle and Dulnain Bridge. <1>
This bridge was included in a desk-based assessment carried out in November 2007 in advance of water main renewal works. Whilst the water main route was thought unlikely to cause damage to the present structure, a watching brief was recommended on excavations at the river crossing due to the potential for remains of earlier structures. <2>
The DBA report states that the bridge is believed to have been constructed in 1791 close to the remains of an earlier bridge built c.1700. In fact the listed building report states that the bridge was constructed c.1830 following the destruction by floods of the 1791 bridge in 1839. <3>
