Full Description

Cameron (1961) states that a skirmish took place at Leac na Saighde (Slope of the Arrows - NM 717 551) between the MacIans and Camerons in the early 17th century following the destruction of Tigh Dige (NM85SW 1) by the Camerons.
Donaldson (1923) states that the battle was fought in 1596 between 220 men of the MacLeans against the MacIans and Camerons, the latter winning decisively. She claims that the site is marked by a spear-shaped stone set on a slight eminence by the roadside near Crosben.
M E M Donaldson 1923; A Cameron 1961.

According to Thornber (Mr I Thornber, Ardtornish, Morven, Argyll) this was a running battle between the MacIans and Camerons which terminated when Angus, 8th chief of the MacIans, was killed on Tom Aonghais Ruaidh (Red Angus's Knoll: NM 732 563). He adds that Miss Donaldson's siting to the spear-shaped stone at NM 711 522 is without foundation.
Visited by OS (N K B) 16 June 1970.
