Full Description

At ND 0982 2501, set into an E-facing slope, is a bi-partite homestead, overgrown with heather. Overall it measures 16m NW-SE and the same transversely, with a wall, 0.5m maximum height, spread to 2.5m; the wall does not have the regularity of curve common to an oval or circular hut circle. The W compartment measures 11m NW-SE through the simple SE entrance, by 5m; and the E one is 7m NW-SE by 4m with no entrance visible. The interior of both enclosed areas is level and featureless.
A curving wall of similar strength and appearance to the enclosing wall separates the two compartments. No wall faces are exposed, but here and there rubble core material protrudes.
The homestead is set deep into the peat and presents the impression of considerable antiquity. There is some evidence of lynchets, which are probably contemporary, on slopes to the E.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 15 November 1982.
