Full Description

(Socketed axe of Portree type). Hoard, found in a peat bog in a layer of clay under 4-5 feet of peat. The bog had formerly been of greater depth. The find was made in 1946.
Socketed axe, brown, cleaned (?), rough metal and slightly corroded surface, haft ribs; length 99mm, mouth 33x37mm, cutting edge 60mm. Arch. and Ethnol. Mus. Cambridge (48.1861A). Associated find: a socketed gouge with multiple mouth moulding.
