Full Description

Threshing barn recorded by RCAHMS. No further information. <1>

This threshing mill was recorded by RCAHMS in 2004 as part of a survey of the Yarrows area. It is located 130m north west of its associated farmstead. The building measures 125m by 5.5m with lime-mortared, coursed flagstone walls. The wheel-pit is on the NW side and contains the remains of an overshot, composite wheel. Thre are two wide opposing entrances at the NE end of the building with a doorway in the SW gable. The interior has a flagged floor and is strewn with components of the wheel-gearing mechanism. Two rectangular sockets are visible in the NW wall which probably held parts of the wooden frame for this mechanism. <2>
