Full Description

Brackloch.R J Adam 1960

A farmstead comprising one roofed and one unroofed building, two enclosures and a head dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet lxxxi). Two unroofed buildings, one enclosure and a head dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1967).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 19 September 1995 <1>

The site was visited and photographed by D Glass on the 29th of September 2013. The building was described as:
"A rectangular building with two compartments. The walls are largely upstanding to near their original height and are built of roughly dressed stone with mortated joints and substantial quoins. The remains of a possibly older building or stock pen lie adjacent to the north side.
The grassed-over walls of a square enclosure lie 50 metres to the southeast and there is a prominent conical mound 80 metres to the southeast.
The standard of construction of the building is consistent with it being a 19th century shooting lodge or a shepherd's house, and it is certainly of later date than the farm at this place which is shown on John Home's map of Assynt (1774)." <2>
