Full Description
Longhouse farm (ND 1170 5690). Situated on edge of floodplain of River Thurso, it comprises four main structural elements;
A: Longhouse. Dimensions: 13 x 4m. Rectangular structure divided into two units, with a kiln 4 x 1.5m at NE end. It is associated with a longhouse to NW measuring 47 x 21 m (This may be one of the enclosures mentioned below: Information from RCAHMS (FO) 7 March 1996). Orientation NE-SW.
B: Longhouse. Dimensions: 26.5 x 4m. Rectangular structure comprising three compartments. Orientation NW-SE.
C: Structure. Dimensions: 9 x 5m. Rectangular structure with no apparent internal divisions. It is associated with an irregularly shaped enclosure measuring 31 x 22m. Orientation E-W.
D: Enclosure. Dimensions: 52 x 42m. Irregularly shaped enclosure containing rig and furrow 1m wide and orientated NW-SE. This lies across a gully from the other structures.

A farmstead comprising three unroofed buildings and three enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xvii). One unroofed building, part of what may be another and three enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1970).
