Full Description
A hut circle at Inverkirkaig.
Two hut circles c 12.5m and c 6.5m in diameter. The surrounding area has been used for shieling/grazing activity. <1>
209001 919598 Inverkirkaig 1 KC003: The hut circle was visited by A Welti and K Clarke in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. The circular stone structure is totally engulfed by mature heather. Only a few stones to N are visible.It is just inside a deer fence and is directly underneath a steep escarpment. It is on fairly level ground with a W facing slope below.The centre of the structure is boggy. Internal diameter could not be measured. External diameter averaged 10.5m.The double skinned wall is 2m thick with max height1.2m. No entrance could be seen. The structure is 12 m from KC004 and 40 m from GS044. <2> <3>
