Full Description
ND12SW 48 1027 2177
A farmstead comprising three unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, and one enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xlii). Two unroofed buildings and one enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1964).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 23 November 1995.
A group of rectangular and subrectangular buildings, clustered around Borgue Langwell broch (ND12SW 1), were recorded by Headland Archaeology (NMRS MS 899/93, no.7). The buildings are of large boulder and turf wall construction. Those on the N and NE of the broch had turf and stone walls with rounded corners. To the S of the broch there is a long building subdivided into three rooms and three smaller buildings clustered around an enclosure.
A large enclosure (NMRS MS 899/93, no.8), defined by a 1m wide bank which is 0.3m high, lies to the SW of the farmstead at ND 1020 2174 whilst there is an enclosure, wall and three clearance cairns (described under ND12SW 67) to the N of the buildings.
