Imposing white harled building, original mid-19th century with later additions to the east. Probably contemporary stables with attached cottage on the west side of the road. East of the road, later kennels and modern sawmill and house, and early 20th century estate cottage (see separate SMR: New@ NG 9612 9215) The house is occupied and in good condition. Gardens tucked into the north bank of the river south of the house are occasionally open to the public.

Original house built as a shooting lodge, probably c. 1835 when Meyrick Bankes bought the estate from Davidson of Tulloch. The area around the kennels and the improved fields south of the stables are the probable location of the former township of Meikle Gruinard.

An unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire and Cromartyshire 1881, sheet xx), but a roofed building is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1969) at this location.
