Full Description

10ft OD. Set back about 70m from the shore of Inverie Bay and 35m to the N of the Inverie River near its mouth is a "shoe-shaped" enclosure, probably a fortified homestead.
It measures 23m ENE/WSW long and its greatest breadth is 10m and is surrounded by a low bank 1.5 - 2.0m thick and up to 0.3m high. There are two breaks in this bank both 1.5m wide near the W end of the N side and near the E end of the S side. The former matches a break in the surrounding ditch and was probably the entrance, the latter is merely a break in the bank.
Surrounding the enclosure is a ditch 5.0m wide, at the top, 1.5m wide at the bottom, its enclosure side 1.2m high is practically vertical, the opposite side is 0.8m high and slopes steeply. On the top of the outer side of the ditch is a narrow low bank. As abovementioned there was an entrance near the W end of the N side and here both sides of the ditch slope gently. Ref no RCC 96/17. Copy sent to Mallaig Centre 20/5/96, CSA 10/9/96, NMR 6/10/96.
Info from R C Callander field record sheet, May 9, 1996.
Corrected grid reference NM 7763 9901.
