Full Description
ARCHITECTS: Ross & Joass (I.A. 3 April 1860) Stables, Coach House, etc
Ross & Joass (I.A. 18 May 1860) Laundry and Dairy
Photographs of the steading and an associated "cottage" to the south were submitted following comments from the Archaeology Unit on proposals for conversion and extension. The architect, Ian Rosie, advised that the buildings have been completely gutted within the last twenty years, framed and lined with new windows. Roofing has largely been replaced with concrete tiling, although one section remains under corrugated stell. <1>
These buildings are depicted on the 1st Ordnance Survey map of 1875 and are shown roofed on the 2nd edition map of 1904. <2><3>
The steading itself was built by Alexander Messer in 1856 (known then as Mountgerald Home Farm). The stables, coachhouse, laundry and dairy were built in 1860 by Ross & Joass. <4>
