Full Description

The Achadh Nan Gamhna bridge over the River Aline at Claggan, alternatively known as Achnagavin Bridge, was built in 1821. Of particular interest is the stone plaque, which features a Gaelic inscription in the centre and English in the surrounding oval. Mr. Donald Grant of the Celtic Congress, Glasgow suggested in 1965 that the Gaelic inscription may be translated as [ ? for the benefit of] visitors to the country this bridge was built by ?Robert ?Mc Quarrie 1821. (Info from Ardtornish Estate Archive).
