Full Description

At NC 9679 6617, situated on a rocky eroding promontory, there is what may be a defended homestead or small dun naturally defended on three sides by cliffs. It measures internally 11m NW-SE by 7.5m at SE end end, tapering to 3m at NW end. The wall is preserved on the landward (SE) side, where it is spread from 2.5 - 4.5m and is 0.6m high, and also in the SW, but with the outer face eroded away. Except for indications of an outer face at the WSW corner, there is little or no trace of a wall in the N and W. An outer facing stone exists in the E side with a transverse slab abutting, indicating the entrance, although there is no lowering of the wall here. There is the suggestion of a ditch outside the wall on the E, 3m wide and silted to 0.3m deep. Two small hollows of an uncertain nature occur in the interior.
Surveyed at 1:2500 Visited by OS (J B) 8 September 1981.
