Full Description

Centred on 049 107

Within the scatter of shieling-huts (NC01SW 9.01), earth-and-stone field banks enclose much of the gentler, sheltered ground on the valley floor and sides. At least four enclosures, measuring up to 200m across can be identified, defined in part by water courses and rock-outcrops. Within the two enclosures to the W of the burn there are smooth, relatively stone-free areas, which are generally grass-covered and may have been cultivated. The ground within the enclosures to the E of the burn is much rougher and they may have been designed to contain stock. Further fragments of bank were noted extending in to the Coire Osgaig to the S, where dense woodland prevented survey.
Two of the shieling huts (ACHIL94 104, NC 0490 1059, see NC01SW 9.01) abut field banks; another (ACHIL94 107; NC 0480 1080) overlies part of a bank, although this need not have compromised the integrity of the line of the bank as a barrier.
There is a scatter of at least four small cairns measuring up to 4m in diameter and 0.3m in height within the larger of the enclosures to the W of the burn. To the S of the enclosures (NC 048 106) five small cairns are scattered across a smooth, heather-covered slope.
