Full Description

NC01SW 9.03 0482 1067, 0480 1062 and 0498 1066

There are three burnt mounds within the shieling ground, two (ACHIL94 105, 106) of which lie on the N bank of an unnamed burn draining into the Allt Coir Osgaig from the W, while the third (ACHIL94 349) is situated on the W bank of the Allt Coir Osgaig. The former are oval and grass-covered, measuring 5.7m by 3.8m (ACHIL94 105, NC 0482 1067) and 4.4m by 2.3m (ACHIL94 106, NC 0480 1068), and stand up to 0.5m in height. A field bank runs between the mounds and the burn, possibly disturbing the mounds, which comprise densely packed cracked stone in a loose matrix of black soil.
The third mound (ACHIL94 349, NC 0498 1066) is C-shaped, heather-covered and measures 7.5m from NE to SW by 5.5m transversely and 0.5m in height, opening on the SE towards the burn. Lifting a sod revealed densely packed cracked stone and black soil under 0.4m of peat.
(ACHIL94 105, 106, 349)
