Full Description

Cup marked stone located by John Christison, on Monday 17th January 2000. Stone is located within an old dyke which is very run down. All that is left of the dyke are the large stones. Finder suspects that the dyke may have been built with stone taken from the nearby chambered cairn, NH74SW0007. Cup marked stone is approximately 150m at the east of the cairn - 270 degrees, and lies beside the stream. It is the corner stone of the old dyke, which appears clearly on 1967 Aps of the area and is on the 1st edition OS map as a rough ground shape and possibly on Roys military map The stone lies at about 52 degrees from the horizontal and the cup is on the south corner of the stone. Stone is 1.53 high, 37cm wide and 42cms broad. Weather conditions bright and sunny. The stone also has a 'T' shaped notch beside the cup marks and has cross hatch on the upper surface. These marks are common on stones in the vicinity. Red Sandstone, broken.
