Monument record MHG255 - Township, Uladail

The name Uladail was first recorded in 1390, though the earliest record of any inhabitants is in 1716. Roy’s map shows a cluster of houses at Ulladill, surrounded by arable land. A Plan of the Farm of Ulladal in 1833 shows 14 buildings, accompanied by enclosed arable fields, while the rest of the land was divided between pasture and oak woodland. In 1841, when Uladail was sold to Patrick Sellar, recently arrived in Morvern from Sutherland, only one house was occupied and by 1851 the site was abandoned.

Ten unroofed buildings, one of which is L-shaped, one enclosure and some short lengths of head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire 1875, sheet lv). Eight unroofed buildings and one enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
