3 June 1934. The vessel went ashore on the north side of Stroma at a position bearing 080 degrees (true) and approximately 8 miles, from Dunnet Head.

8 June 1934. The vessel is completely broken up and no longer visible. Report by Royal Naval Signal Station, Dunnet Head, 3 Juen 1934.

21 January 1985. The site was not found nor referred to in the report of survey carried out by BUE Subsea.

Steamship GERTRUD, 1627 ton, of Helsingfors, master R. Wallen, bound from Manchester to Helsingfors. Lost 1 June 1934, 6.50 (not shown if am or pm). Langaton, 1/4 mile from Stroma Lighthouse. Fog signal sounding from 5.10am. Weather calm, dense fog. Cause of wreck strong tide & dense fog. All 22 persons saved. Cargo ballast. Shortly after the crew had been taken off by one of the local boats the steamer commenced to break up & within 14 hours no trace of her was visible above water.
