Full Description

NG46SW 6 centred on 419 630

A crofting township comprising twenty roofed, two partially roofed and four unroofed buildings is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Skye 1879, sheet vii). The township is defined to the N and E by the River Conon and to the S by parts of a head-dyke which run from Abhainn Dhubh to Lon an t-Sratha and from Lon an t-Sratha to Lon Dubh. The boundary to the W consists of parts of a head-dyke, the fragments of which run from NG 4138 6339 to NG 4197 6266, and which separates Balnaknock from the township of Sheader. The current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968) shows more extensive remains of this W portion of head-dyke which include a section running across a rocky outcrop called Castle Ewen (NG 415 629).
Seven roofed, twenty-one unroofed buildings, and parts of a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968).
