Full Description

NH80SW 39 centred on 847 026

A township comprising one roofed and five unroofed buildings, two of which are long buildings, is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1873, sheet lxxxviii). The fragmentary remains of four unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1994).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 17 July 1996

The site was visited and photographed by D Taylor in 2012. Seven structures were noted, described and photographed. It was thought to potentially be the dwelling and outbuildings of a single-tenant farm that had emerged by the early 19th century. The site was divided by a vehicle track running through it:
Structure 1 (Photographs D-G)
Substantial building with large blocks of split stone forming straight-edged lower walls, and evidence of right-angle corners; aligned SE-NW; 17m x 6; two clear compartments.
Structure 2 (Photographs H-J)
Long building 22m x 5.5; less well founded than structure 1; possible internal division in middle; opposing doors, suggesting barn; signs of enclosure at S side at NW end. Wall connecting SE end of structure 2 with NW end of structure 1, possibly part of enclosure.
Structure 3 (Photograph K)
Long building 21m x 4.5; aligned N-S; three compartments 4m, 6m, and 11m. Remains of enclosure / storage area on west side.
Structure 4 (Photograph L)
Following line of structure 3; 20m x 5.5; indistinct remains.
Structure 5 (Photograph M)
Situated in field on west side of track; Kiln, no barn. Possibly lime?
Structure 6 (Photograph N)
Situated in field beside structure 5; 16m x 5; stone foundations.
Structure 7
Very faint outlines of long building below structure 6.
The site was described as surrounded by extensive arable land of reasonable quality to the south, north and west on the same contour level. To the east, on a lower plain, was more good arable land between the site and the River Feshie. <1>
