Full Description

On a shelf in a W-facing slope in Soilsham Wood is a circular stone-walled hut measuring c. 11.5m in diameter between the centres of a denuded wall spread to c. 2.5m all round. A gap c. 1.5m. wide in the E arc may be the entrance but it is unusual in being on the uphill side and it could be due to mutilation. Two outer wall facing stones are visible immediately to the S of this gap.
The hut occurs within a contemporary field system marked by stone clearance heaps and traces of lynchets. Details of the fields are masked by trees and undergrowth.
Hut surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (A A) 24 February 1972.
