Full Description
NC70NW 2.05 centred on 716 074
On the W flank of Cnoc Achadh na h-Vaighe is a settlement of three hut circles (A-C) one (A) with a souterrain, and an accompanying well-preserved field system. The field system is denoted in numerous stoned clearance heaps, spaced from 5.0 to 20.0m apart, interspersed with lynchets and occasional banks. There are two distinct field plots evident, one 60.0 by 12.0m the other 20.0 by 10.0m.
Revised at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 6 April 1981.
There are at least thirty small cairns, measuring up to 4m in diameter and 0.4m in height, on the W flank of Cnoc Achadh na h-Uaighe. On the SW-facing hillside fragmentary lynchets and rickles of stone, up to 30m in length, may define subrectangular plots laid out along the contour. This hillside has been crudely improved and reseeded, producing patches of closely spaced grooves, which bear a passing resemblance to cord rig, in particular immediately to the N of a hut-circle (NC70NW 2.02, ROG95 43).
To the W, in the vicinity of the westernmost hut-circle (NC70NW 2.03. ROG95 41) at NC 7160 0754, a later earth banked field-system impinges on the small cairns and fragmentary banks, defining plots measuring at least 50m across.
