Full Description

NC70NW 60.03 centred on 705 060

This field, which is enclosed by an earth-and-stone bank and measures about 290m from NE to SW by up to 120m transversely, lies on the E side of the valley of the Torbreck Burn (NC 705 060). Much of the interior bears faint traces of rig, and the SW side is marked by a positive lynchet, which stands up to 1m in height. The lynchet is overlain by a stone-walled subrectangular enclosure (NC 7075 0601) which cuts what may have been an earlier line of the bank. The field bank post-dates a head-dyke, which appears to be part of the boundary of the township to the W of the Torbreck Burn (NC 70NW 4).
Fragments of banking visible on the valley floor to the SW of the field may have formed a second enclosure, encompassing a patch of rough ground.
