Full Description
NC70NW 116 7327 0847
A building (ROG95 61) and what may have been a mill (ROG95 567) lie in the rough ground to the S and SW of Craggiemore farmhouse. Fragments of a system of earth-and-stone banks survive in the corners of fields to the SE of the farm and to the S of the possible mill.
The building (ROG95 61, NC 7327 0847) is situated on a ledge amongst a scatter of boulders and measures 11m from NW to SE by 2.2m transversely within boulder footings 0.7m in thickness and 0.4m in height. A stone-walled sheepfold overlies the NW end of the building.
What may have been a mill (ROG95 567, NC 7332 0838) lies on the SW side of a boggy gully and comprises a narrow, level platform, which has been excavated into the slope on the SW side, with a bank of upcast running parallel to it on the NE side of the platform. The platform measures about 11m from NW to SE by 6m transversely from the crest of the bank along the NE side to the lip of the terrace on the SW. An overgrown and infilled drain, possibly a lade, runs into the NW end of the terrace, with a channel leading from the SE end to the adjacent boggy gully.
