Full Description

NC70NW 154 7053 0808

On the edge of boggy ground to the SW of the modern road through West Langwell, and about 750m SSE of Bardachan farmsteading, there are the remains of five buildings and a small hut, scattered across an area measuring about 170m from E to W by 100m from N to S, each situated on an isolated patch of dry ground in otherwise boggy terrain. The buildings are all constructed of turf and stone, and have been extensively robbed. The largest building is at the S edge of the group at NC 7060 0803 (ROG95 780); it measures internally 24.8m in length by 3m in breadth and the interior has been divided into three compartments. The other buildings measure internally between 6.2m and 13.6m in length and between 2.4m and 3.2m in breadth, while the hut (ROG95 786), which is defiened largely by robber trenches, measures 4.6m by 2m internally.
Two unroofed buildings are shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheets xcvi).
