Full Description

A large house, associated with three other structures and a turf-banked enclosure, is situated on a low natural mound within otherwise level and marshy ground on the NW side of the Allt Beitheach. The house, Site 1, 18.70m NE-SW by 5.90m, is dilapidated and overgrown, though up to three courses of masonry, 0.65m thick and 0.80m high, are visible at the NE end. A partition wall separates the house into two compartments but no entrance or other internal features are discernible.

1.50m NNW of the SW end is an ill-defined structure, Site 2, 10.70m NW-SE by 5.90m, dug into a natural mound. It consists of broad turf banks, 1.50m thick and 1.10m high, lined externally on the S side by a stone revetment. The interior has been disturbed but a partition and an entrance on the NW are visible. The narrow gap between the two structures has been partly enclosed.

4m to the NW of Site 2, is a small structure, Site 3, dug into the slope. Measuring 3.90m NW-SE by 2.90m, with an entrance in the SE side, it is defined by walls, 0.65m thick and 0.45m high. 58m W of house 1 is a fourth structure, situated alongside a track, which runs from the house to the old road. Measuring 10m W-E by 5.10m, with an entrance in the SE side, it is defined by a broad bank, 1.50m thick, revetted internally with stone. The turf bank, 1.30m thick and 0.60m high, follows the plan recorded on the OS 1st Ed. 6 Map. It is a prominent feature around the houses but less discernible elsewhere.
