Full Description

ND13SE 107 centred 1640 3210
A low grass-grown mound, with an upright slab close to its centre, is situated on gently-sloping heather-grown moorland about 200m ESE of Greentulloch. It measures 9m in overall diameter by about 0.4m in height around the uphill (E) side and 0.6m around the downhill (W) side. The edge of the mound is defined by a stony lip, particularly around the E, giving the impression of an enclosing bank. Thus, it is possible that this is the remains of a hut-circle, although the purpose of the upright stone about 1.5m WNW of the centre is uncertain. The stone is aligned roughly N and S, measuring 1.2m by 0.15m and 0.5m in height. A smaller slab 0.5m in length protrudes through the turf some 0.6m to the SE of it, and is aligned NNE and SSW. While they might conceivably be the remains of a cist, the stones lie roughly on the line of an old dyke visible on the slope 50m to the SSE, and their presence may be fortuitous.
A thin scatter of low grass-grown mounds, the largest little more than 2m in diameter, can be seen in the rough pasture to the E. A few stones can be seen protruding through the turf of several of the mounds. While some may be the remains of small cairns, others may be no more than natural features.
