George Brown's 1771 map of the Gordon Estates N of the River Spey (SRO, RHP 1835) depicts a small group of shieling-huts in Coire Nan Laogh, by the banks of the Allt an Lochan Dubh. Brown's map usually provides a reliable indication of the position of shielings in the glens to the N of Glen Banchor, but there are no huts to be seen in this area. It may be that they have been washed away by spate water, and a scatter of stones on an islet approximately at the NGR given may be the last vestiges of one hut.
