Full Description

NH41NE 22 498 172

Air photographs (RCAHMSAP 1994) show earthwork field boundaries in an area of rough grazing and unimproved land 400m S of Dalcrag farmstead (NH 4982 1764). A bank following the 168m contour line for parts of its length defines an irregular oval-shaped field, enclosing the field on all sides except the S, and defining an area of improved land. This is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Invernessshire 1874, sheet liv) by a change in land use, and is represented on the current 1:10000 map sheet (1975) by a dotted line. To the N and E are three straight field boundaries running across the unimproved land outwith the oval field, and these are depicted to their full extent only on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map.
