Full Description

NG20SE 57 2679 0494

The footings of a row of three rectangular buildings are tucked into the foot of the slope above the rocky foreshore facing out towards Iolann an Eilein. They are all similar in size, ranging from 10m to 10.5m in length and 3.7m to 4m in breadth within faced rubble walls 1.2m in thickness and up to 0.6m in height. A drainage trench extends along the rear of the buildings, where they have been set into the slope, while a built-up terrace can be seen along the front; the entrances are located centrally to the sides facing the shore. A smaller building and a hut have been inserted into the NE and SE corners respectively of the middle building in the row.
The row is depicted as two roofless structures on the 1975 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map, and as three roofed buildings on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, 1881, sheet lix).
(Canna 51-3, 937-8).
Visited by RCAHMS (ARG, IMS), 29 April 1994.
